Hojicha (焙じ茶) meaning ‘roasted tea’, is a green tea although not green in colour. Unlike common green tea, the leaves of Hojicha are roasted, turning them a rich brown and creating a unique character with earthy undertones with a naturally sweet caramel aroma. Almost all of the caffeine is extracted during the roasting process which makes Hojicha a perfect drink in the evening or for those sensitive to the effects of caffeine.
Making Hojicha
Make the perfect hojicha latte by whisking together 1 tsp of Hojicha Powder and 60 ml of hot water. If desired, add a sweetener of your choice. Top with your preferred type of hot, frothed milk. Sit back and enjoy the tea ritual. Alternatively add Hojicha to baking for a rich tea infused dessert
